Benefits

How we enhance your weight loss

Our program includes lifestyle modifications that support your overall health with benefits that include:

Improve the way your body responds to sugars

When blood sugar rises, GLP-1s stimulate insulin production, facilitating the utilization of sugar for energy instead of storing it as fat.

Feel fuller sooner and longer

Maintain medication and healthy habits, continuing weight loss and energy improvements. Check in with your provider for adjustments, explore new recipes, and stay active to sustain progress.

Understand how your body is responding to GLP-1

With blood tests up front, and every 3 to 6 months thereafter, you can feel confident you’re prioritizing your overall health while losing weight.

Kickstart your new lifestyle

With lifestyle modifications, including nutrition coaching, stress management, and gut probiotics, you'll reach and maintain your long-term health goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to commonly asked questions about our Weight Loss Program with GLP-1's.

Which type of medication is Semaglutide and Tirzepatide?
Both Semaglutide and Tirzepatide belong to a category of medications known as Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. These medications are primarily used for managing type 2 diabetes and obesity. Semagltuide also recently received FDA approved for the reduction of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease or those at high risk for cardiovascular events due to additional risk factors.
** MACE typically includes cardiovascular death, non-fatal heart attack, and non-fatal stroke
What is a GLP-1 and how does it work?
Glucagon-Like Peptide 1 (GLP-1)’s are a hormone produced in the intestines that is involved in two crucial activities. The first is, regulating blood sugar levels by stimulating the pancreas to secrete more insulin and less glucagon. This helps lower blood sugar levels after meals by promoting glucose uptake by the cells for energy and inhibiting the liver from releasing excess glucose into the bloodstream. The second is, slowing gastric emptying which helps control appetite and promote the feeling of fullness.
Who is eligible to take a GLP-1?
Eligibility for Semaglutide and Tirzepatide typically includes adults with type 2 diabetes, individuals with established cardiovascular disease or those at high risk for cardiovascular events, and individuals with obesity.
What if I have existing health issues?
This is the reason why Balanced Healthcare's Medical Weight Loss Program is overseen by licensed medical professionals such as doctors, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners, who collaborate with each individual to assess the safety of using GLP-1 medications.
Balanced Healthcare offers a free initial phone consultation to review your medical history and answer questions before spending a dime or making a decision to move forward.
How do I take the medication?
GLP-1 medications are typically administered by subcutaneous injection, which is using a small insulin needle to inject the medication into the fatty tissue just beneath the skin, typically in the abdominal (belly) area.
Balanced Healthcare’s medical team will assist you with starting this process and train you so you are comfortable with the administration before you are left on your own to do it at home.
How long do I have to stay on the medication after I start?
The duration can vary based on several factors including your individual health condition, the effectiveness of the mediation, any potential side-effects, and your personal weight loss goals.
GLP-1 medications can safely and effectively be used as a long-term treatment modality, however, in many cases patients taper down or discontinue once they’ve reached their weight loss goal. This is also why Balanced Healthcare’s Medical Weight Loss Program aims to provide additional support and resources for lifestyle modifications in diet, nutrition, appetite and intake, movement, exercise, stress, sleep, and more!
What are the common side effects of GLP-1s?

Nausea, vomiting, acid reflux, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, decreased appetite, injection site reactions, hypoglycemia.

Balanced Healthcare’s medical approach in their weight loss program helps mitigate and avoid these side effects through close collaboration with your licensed medical professional, compounded formulations of the medication used to include vitamin B12 and glycine, and the goal to use the lowest dose effective and adjust slowly as tolerated to achieve the desired outcome of weight loss without side effects.

What if I need a higher dose?

You’ll have direct access to your licenses medical provider in-person or by phone to discuss your individual response to medication so adjustments can be made that are specific to your needs and goals!

How much weight will I lose?

Weight loss outcomes can vary significantly from person to person and depend on various factors such as baseline weight, adherence to treatment, diet, exercise, and individual metabolic factors.

Clinical trials have shown that GLP-1 medications can lead to significant weight loss in some individuals, with average weight reductions ranging from several pounds to over 10% of body weight over the course of treatment.

  1. In the STEP trials (Semaglutide Treatment Effect in People with obesity), participants treated with Semaglutide once weekly achieved weight loss ranging from 14.9% to 15.3% of baseline body weight over 68-68 weeks.
  2. In the SUSTAIN trial (Semaglutide Unabated Sustainability in Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes), Semaglutide treatment resulted in weight loss ranging from 5% to 9.5% of baseline body weight over 56 weeks in patients with type 2 diabetes.
  3. Results from the SURPASS clinical trials (Surpassing Service Standards) showed that Tirzepatide treatment led to weight loss ranging from approximately 10% to 15% of baseline body weight over 52 weeks in participants with type 2 diabetes.
